The Gift of Giving: Alegre Foundation Brings Joy to Southeast Idaho Families

The Alegre Foundation, a nonprofit rooted in Rigby, Idaho, is dedicated to bringing joy to families in need across Southeast Idaho during the holiday season.

 

Established in 2021, the foundation has significantly expanded its reach, now assisting families in Jefferson, Bonneville, and Madison counties.

 

Board member Maresa Nunez emphasized their commitment to local communities, stating, "We are really focused on local families in Jefferson, Bonneville, and Madison County."

 

One memorable instance involved a woman who unexpectedly lost her husband, leaving her as a single mother to a young family.

 

Upon delivering Christmas gifts, the team found her overwhelmed with gratitude, expressing, "Thank you, thank you so much."

 

Such stories underscore the foundation's impact on families facing financial hardships or personal losses.

 

To maintain privacy, the identities of recipient families remain confidential.

 

The Alegre Foundation accepts nominations from October through early December and anticipates doubling the number of recipients in the coming years.

 

Beyond the holiday season, the foundation remains active.

 

They have organized back-to-school initiatives, providing clothes and backpacks for underprivileged students in Jefferson County.

 

Additionally, they support The Giving Cupboard, a food pantry in Rigby, by donating supplies to assist families in need.

 

Reflecting on their experiences, Nunez shared, "We've met some really amazing families with amazing and sometimes heart-wrenching stories of things that they've gone through, and we've given back to them, and they've all been so appreciative."
