Innovative 'reverse vending machines' offer a unique way to support local and global charities during the holiday season. |
With the holiday season in full swing, Idaho Falls residents have a special opportunity to embrace the spirit of giving through the innovative Giving Machines now available at the Grand Teton Mall.
These unique 'reverse vending machines' allow individuals to purchase essential items for those in need, transforming a simple transaction into an act of kindness.
Sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Giving Machines are part of the global Light the World initiative, which encourages acts of service during the Christmas season.
Each machine offers a variety of items, from meals and clothing to school supplies and livestock, benefiting both local and international charities.
In Idaho Falls, the participating local charities include the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center, Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership, Idaho Falls Rescue Mission, The Village, Community Food Basket–Idaho Falls, and Friends in Service Here (FISH).
International organizations such as Right to Play and Care are also beneficiaries.
One of the highlights of the Giving Machines' arrival was a live performance by singer Jay Osmond, who recently moved to Idaho Falls.
Osmond expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, "You can do your part, and that’s what really gets you into the Christmas spirit."
The machines will be available at the Grand Teton Mall from December 15 through January 1, operating Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
They will be closed on Christmas Day, with adjusted hours on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Community members are encouraged to visit the Giving Machines and select items that resonate with them.
One hundred percent of the proceeds go directly to the chosen charities, as the Church covers all operational costs.
As Elder Kirt L. Hodges of the Church remarked, "This is a season to focus on the Savior, and these machines make it simple and meaningful to share his love through service."
Embrace the true spirit of Christmas by participating in this unique giving experience and make a difference in the lives of those in need. |
